Here it is the end of April. I really don't know where the time goes. It's been a month of pool construction and yard work but we did manage to fit in some time with friends and it was also Adam's birthday. Happy Birthday, Addy!
The pool is coming along and we hear rumours of water some time next week! I'll let you know! We've also started all the landscaping work around the pool. That is actually coming along pretty nicely. This part of the project, we are taking on ourselves. We contracted the pool out but decided that we could handle the patio and yard work on our own. When I say 'on our own', I actually mean with the help of our wonderful friends and neighbours and a few hired hands!
It's hot but not like I remember last April. We are seeing most days around 95F (or 35C) and that's been pretty manageable. We start early and work until mid day and then it's siesta time. At least for us....the real Belizeans can work right through that! Although, the forecast is calling for 102-104F for the next week. That 10 degrees makes a big difference.

Here is what the pool looks like today. I hope that by Wednesday or Thursday it will look a whole lot more refreshing and cool! Over the last couple of days, the guys were working on the coping stones around the edges and the turtle mosaics. They still need to plaster coat the whole inside and hook up the plumbing. It's starting to feel like we are coming to the finish line. At least for the pool...still a lot of work for the patio and landscaping. We've picked out and ordered the pavers. They were actually supposed to be delivered yesterday but they were a no show. I'll have to follow up on Monday. Pavers are a new thing for us but thankfully, Ed (next door) has lots of experience with them so he is guiding us through the steps. Now that we have the pool backfilled and we can see the shape of the patio area, it makes everything a whole lot easier to visualize. We are still a long ways away but it's good progress.
And then of course, there is the normal life stuff. So I thought I'd throw in a few pictures from around town. San Ignacio is also being renovated! The downtown core is getting a whole facelift. Lots of chaos and construction right now but it will be worth it in the end.
They are working on a new visitors centre and town square. The main street downtown is being turned into a walking street....yeah, no more cars! They have also commissioned local artists to paint a number of large murals on buildings. And the big news is that we are getting a new bridge across the Macal river and some road upgrades. It's great to see the investment in the area. Belize has so much potential.
