Merry Christmas, friends! The clock just rolled past midnight so it's official. We are beginning our second Christmas in Belize. Well, technically it's our third Christmas here...we vacationed here five years ago but it's our second holiday since Belize has become our new home.
No family or friends visiting this year. But Sheri and Victor will be here next week to help us ring in the new year. Can't wait to see them.
We are planning to spend Christmas day with Peggy and Ed and about twenty more expats in the area! We are all getting together for a massive potluck and it will be wonderful. I'm bringing the turkey. Got to say, it's kind of a treat to only have to worry about one dish.
But it wouldn't be Christmas without holiday baking so I've been having fun with that for the last while. And as quickly as I've made it, I've wrapped it up to give away! Not so good for my 'girlish figure'! So we bundled up the goodies and toured around to the neighbours to spread the holiday cheer! Fun!

Christmas Eve was an unexpected visit with some of our new neighbours. A couple of weeks ago we noticed a group of young backpackers walking down our road. Kind of unusual. We're not on a tourist route! The next time we saw them, Adam hopped on his bike to see what they were up to. Not in a suspicious, creepy kind of way. Just curious and it's nice to know what's going on in our neighbourhood.
Turns out they are all from New York state. They are here camping out on a piece of land owned by the mom of one of the guys. They are totally roughing it. No house, no power, no bathroom!!!! They've hacked their way in with machetes and are working to build a small house. What an adventure! But I'm glad it's them and not me! Even if I was still in my early twenties, I wouldn't want to take this on.
They stopped by for a visit this afternoon. I think that their 'young guy food sensors' kicked in. I had just put out all the finger food for Christmas Eve munching! So we moved it outside and a good time was had by all. Might be a little pain in the morning, though. Can you say...beer, rum, amaretto, and (eeeww!) peach schnapps?

Over the last few weeks we've seen signs of Christmas all over Belize. I've been pretty good remembering to bring the camera along so here are some holiday greetings from tropical Belize to you!
Wishing you all the best, friends! Hope that you can share the season with all the people that are important in your lives. Hold them close and cherish them.
Merry, merry Christmas!
Much love from Adam and Mona!
