Four days in beautiful Placencia! This place just doesn't get old for us. It's about a three hour drive from here. We've been down a number of times but never for four whole days! What a treat!
We rented a duplex cabana right on the beach. About twenty steps from the Caribbean Sea! And the water was so clear and warm. That's still the Canadian in me because locals were talking about how cool the water was. But realistically, it is February!
First day was just for hanging out, playing in the water, soaking up the sun on the beach and eating and drinking too much! Everything you're supposed to do on vacation!

We decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and book a tour to Silk Caye. It's about an hour's boat ride from Placencia and what an amazing little island. Sheryn opted out for the day. She's not big on boat rides.
We left the dock at about 8am and headed out to sea. Adam and Larissa planned a couple of scuba dives. And I planned a full and busy day of beach- combing on Silk Caye.
If anyone is planning a trip to Placencia, Silk Caye is a must do. Lots of people snorkel right around the island, others scuba dive a little farther out on the reef and some (like me) just hang out on the beach! Hanging on the beach is not in the least bit boring. I could see lemon sharks just a few feet from shore. I walked out on a sand bar and chased a barracuda. I watched the pelicans smash into the water for food. What funny birds! No grace whatsoever when they hit the water! It's totally face first. Then they fill up their big beaks with water, filter it, and are left with a mouth full of fish. It may not be pretty but I guess that it works for them!
On this tiny little island I saw pelicans, cormorants, osprey and sea gulls. Amazing! And that doesn't even touch all the fish and sea life.
After the boat dropped me (and our cook) off at the island they headed out about another ten minutes to the reef for their scuba dive. By all accounts it was a great dive. Back to the island for a fresh cooked lunch and they were out for another dive in the afternoon.
