Saturday is the big market day in San Ignacio. Vendors from all over the area set up on the market grounds and sell their wares. We can find everything from the usual fruits and veggies to clothes, tools, toys, household stuff...just about everything!! It's a pretty big event here and it's usually packed!
Yesterday was rainy and the crowds were down so we decided to head in. Every week a guy from Belmopan sets up and sells bootlegged DVD's. These are the ones that are made when someone sneaks a video camera into the theatre. The quality isn't always the greatest...sometimes you see someone stand up to get popcorn!! But they aren't bad and they are really cheap. Yesterday we picked up seven movies for $24 BZD (that's just under $12 CAD). He has all the new movies on the shelf within days of release. Kind of neat. I really thought that we would be missing out on all the new movies but this works out pretty good. (I'll get the see the new Harry Potter movie!!!!)
We also picked up our supply of fruits and veggies. I have a favourite stand where the lady doesn't speak english. We are getting to know each other a bit and she very nice about my terrible spanish! We bought veggies for an amazing greek salad. I found a place in Belmopan that I can buy Feta cheese so we are on a huge greek salad kick. Love it!

And then of course the end result of the shopping....Adam at the BBQ! Doesn't matter what country we live in, Adam will always BBQ! Dinner last night... BBQ ribs, huge bowl of greek salad, garlic toast and chocolate sundae for dessert. Life is pretty good!
Couple of days ago we went to a potluck dinner with a bunch of expats here. Great chance to meet some new people. The food and the company were amazing. It's always interesting to learn people's stories...what brought them to Belize, where they are from and where they are going. Some are like us. Looking for a change (and running from the cold!), others came here with hopes of making their fortune in the emerging tourist industry, and some are running from their old lives for whatever reason. Everyones stories are unique yet similar...they all ended up in Belize!
