This blog is dedicated to the last major renovation that we are doing on this house. I know, anyone that knows us is saying...'Yah sure. You'll never stop renovating.' Nope...done! Sure, owning a home requires maintenance and every once in a while a girl might want to try a new paint colour but other than that we are done. No more new concrete pillars, no more delivery trucks full of wood or gravel, no more multiple trips to the cash machine! We've been a constant state of renovation since we moved into the house just over two years ago.
As I write this, I am sitting on our beautiful patio, by our sparkling pool, and under our wonderful new shade pergola! The pergola is the perfect finishing touch on our little outdoor paradise. I'm actually not sure if I should be calling it a pergola. It has a solid roof for full sun blockage. I kind of think a pergola is supposed to be partially open but whatever. It does what we need and makes our patio usable. It wasn't a big deal in the cooler months but once April and May rolled around we found ourselves stuck under the house, hiding in the shade most of the time. Kind of defeated the purpose of the deck space.

Kind of defeated the purpose of the deck space.
So, we built an 18' x 30' shade shelter. As with any of our projects, we spent a few weeks in the 'thinking about it' stage. That included many hours of staring at the space...usually from the bar with a drink in hand! Lots of arguing back and forth between Adam and I but in the end it all came together and we are so happy with it.
One of the toughest decisions for me was what colour of zinc (what we call tin for the roof is called zinc here) to use on the roof. The whole house and the garage are green. Green is OK but we also had green on our house in Fort Nelson for many years and I think I am just greened out! And, honestly, the blue just spoke to me. It compliments the pool and it just makes me happy. I'm sure that someday somebody will question why they don't match and I'll just say 'it makes me happy!'
