Immediately after our visit with Kent, Cheri Lee and Squid, we picked Rob and Cara Sanche up in Belize City. In fact it was the same day. Rob and Cara flew into Cancun and took the Mexican ADO bus to Belize City. It was quite a journey for them to get here. Drive from Kimberley to Calgary, fly from Calgary to Cancun, bus from Cancun to Belize City and then drive with Adam to Cayo...that's a good 48 hours on the road! Exhausting!
For those of you who might not know Rob and Cara, they are friends from Fort Nelson. Cara worked at Scotiabank and Rob was with Overwaitea. They left Fort Nelson a number of years ago and moved to Nanaimo and have since settled in Kimberley. Thankfully, Adam and Rob have done a pretty good job at staying in touch over the years. We stopped in to visit them in Kimberley on our way out of Canada. Adam got in one last snowmobile trip and we got the chance to stand by the fire in the cold and snow and share a few(!) drinks. It was such a nice time! So, we were so happy to have the chance to spend more time with them in our new home.

After a couple of down days to let Rob and Cara recover from the journey, we made plans and started sightseeing. Cave tubing was pretty high on the list of priorities. Adam and I just went with Squid, Cheri Lee and Kent but it was so much fun that we were totally game to go again! This time we drove in ourselves and hooked up with an onsite guide that we met on the previous trip. Worked out cheaper and we could set our own schedule. Louis, our guide, set us up with tubes and head lamps and and we trekked down to the launching point on the river. It's about a 45 minute walk and the mosquitoes can be pretty fierce so we didn't dawdle! Because we were on our own schedule, we beat most of the other tours in. So we had the caves to ourselves for a while anyway and it was great. So peaceful. The river was lower than the previous week so it made for a very relaxing and gentle float. We made a point of doing the trip on a non-cruise ship day. When the cruise ships are in Belize City, there can be a couple thousand people floating through the caves in a few hours time. No thanks! Definitely not for us!
After about and hour and a half on the river we were back at the starting point. We stopped in at the on site restaurant and had a great buffet lunch. And then zip lining was next on the agenda. I wasn't feeling great the last time we were here so I opted out but I was very eager to try it this time. Such a great adrenaline rush!
Adam is getting to be an old pro at this. We (Adam, Larissa and I) all zip lined on our Belize vacation four years ago. Adam and Larissa went again in Guatamala, and then Adam went just the week before with Squid, Cheri Lee and Kent. This was a first time for Rob and Cara. And I have to give Cara lots of credit because she's not great with the heights thing! She did amazing! The zip line company built in an 'escape route'. After the first run, you can take the stairs down if it's just too much. No need for us. We rock!!
