It was a very hot week...high 30's . And the country has been hit hard with forest fires so we are seeing lots of smoke. Not the greatest time to be showing off the beauty of Belize but we are trying.
We packed into the nice air conditioned truck with Larissa, Squid, and Cheri-Lee and drove down the Hummingbird highway to St. Herman's Cave and then the inland Blue Hole for some swimming.
St. Herman's cave is beautiful. We were able to explore it on our own which is the best way. At one point we turned off the flashlights and experienced the total blackness. Pretty neat! On the hike through the jungle, Larissa, Cheri-Lee and I chose to take the high trail instead of the normal, low trail. We hiked up the side of the mountain. It was hard work but we were rewarded with a couple of great view points. But the best reward was a swim in the Blue Hole! The water comes from an underground river so it was refreshing and cool. We don't get to be cool in this country very often!

We stopped to pick up lunch at the market in Belmopan on the way back. We had chicken, rice and beans, and fresh fruit. We fed five people for $35BZD. That's about $17 Canadian! Awesome! We took lunch over to a nearby park, Guananasta Park and ate there. After eating we felt energetic enough for a hike through the trails. Keeping in mind it was almost 40C! This was a pretty big feat! I made a bit of fool of my self when a snake crossed the path. But later in the walk Larissa and I tried to chase down a huge Iguana that was on the trail in front of us. And then it was back into the air conditioned truck and home!
