We've been keeping busy the last few days. Enjoying family time with Victor and Sheri.
We tried to get into Xuinantunich, the Mayan ruins close by, but the river is too high so the ferry across is closed. So we drove to El Pilar instead. El Pilar is about 10 miles from our house and it's a pretty rough drive but well worth it. We met up with a gardener from the site and hired him to be our tour guide for the morning. His name is Narcissis (I probably spelled that terribly wrong, so my apologies to Narcissis!). He told us all sorts of things about the plants and their medicinal uses. We even got to bring a few samples home. We packed a picnic lunch and ate at the site. Narcissis joined us for lunch (and a couple beer!) and then we gave him a ride back to town. A good day!

Here's an example of how small a world this truly is. Sheri has a friend from Chetwynd that owns a house here in Belize. Turns out that he is only about 1/2 an hour from our place and he was in Belize this week. So we got in touch and went to visit. Ron's house is really nice, especially the infinity pool with the Harley Davidson logo tiled in the bottom! We live in squalor! Adam actually recalls seeing Ron around town but we had no idea that we had such close connections! Crazy!
Yesterday Sheri and Victor went cave tubing. Adam and I opted out and spent the day at home. Well, Adam actually made a run to Spanish Lookout to get lawn tractor parts but I stayed home. We were a little worried that the rivers might be too high for cave tubing but sounds like it was great. Sheri didn't even use the tube...she swam and floated. Her guide was kind of baffled about going cave 'tubing' without the tube but whatever...crazy Canucks! Sheri enjoyed it so much that she wants to fit one more trip in before they head home. It really is pretty incredible.
Sounds like they have opened the ferry to Xuinantunich today so we are going to try that this afternoon. It's a cloudy day so not so hot. Wish us luck!
