Wow! Can hardly believe that my mom has been here for just over a week already. Time is really slipping by! We stayed fairly close to home for a few days. Mom took a middle of the night bus from Cancun to Corozal (where we picked her up) so we were all a little tired and decided to be lazy for a bit.
The rivers are still pretty high from all the rain but I'm sure that Sheri and Victor took the bad weather back with them. I hate to say it...but it's been beautiful since they left. Apparently, we are in a 'cold front'. So it's been getting to about 15C at night and about 28C during the day. That is about perfect! Hurricane Rina is skirting along the Belize coast right now but I don't expect that we will feel much from her although she is a pretty good threat to northern Belize and the Cancun area. Fingers crossed that everyone we know stays safe.

It has been a fairly quiet week but we haven't just been sitting on our butts either! Mom and I spent one morning at the Cahal Pech Mayan ruins. Beautiful. It must be getting into 'tourist' season. We had the place to ourselves for a bit and then the groups started to show up. That's good. So many people here rely on the tourist dollar for a living.
Mom and I went to the market on Saturday. Saturday is the big market day when vendors from all over the area come to town. Picked up a few things, had some ice cream and bought fruit and veggies.
Yesterday we had to go to Belmopan for our monthly visit to Immigration. So we decided to also visit St Herman's Cave and the inland Blue Hole. It's about a twenty minute drive past Belmopan on the Hummngbird Highway. The cave was a little out of Mom's comfort zone, but she did great! It's certainly not a small, tight space but it is a very dark, and little bit creepy cave! No getting around that! I told Mom that she couldn't visit Belize and not go into a cave. So much of the Mayan belief system and modern adventure travel is focused on the wonderful caves of this country. And it's just not something that you can do anywhere!

After St Herman's Cave we trekked over to the Blue Hole. Unfortunately, we didn't bring our swimsuits and the water was beautiful. Last time that we visited with Sheri and Victor, the water level was really high and the water was brown and muddy. Not very inviting. This time it looked just like the travel brochures! We didn't bring our suits so we did the next best thing...hiked up our skirts and waded in! Next time we are in the area, we will go for a real swim.
Today is a little rainy and I'm fighting off a cold (my first in a year!). So we are hanging around the house. Adam is working on the lawn tractor. That thing will be the death of him! Probably head to town for dinner. Eating out sounds so much better than actually cooking! We seem to do that a lot. Restaurants here are so good and so cheap it's hard to justify dirtying a pot.
