I'm sitting on the deck watching it rain across the river valley. No rain here yet but I'm enjoying the cool breeze. I can hear the howler monkeys in the trees near the river. It's truly magical to listen to them. Like something from another world. I remember the first time that Adam and I heard them on our first trip to Belize. It was terrifying! We had been told about them but you can't really get it until you hear them for yourselves. Wow! And now we have them living just down the road.
Had a close encounter with a snake on the deck today. It was a green headed racer snake (I think) about three feet long. Kind of pretty gold with a bright green head. It was a lot prettier after Adam and Ed (the neighbour) shooed it out of the yard! Apparently, non-poisonous and nothing to worry about. Although, if it had made it into my house, I would have been worrying plenty!
Adam came across a giant slug in the garage today. OK...probably not all that giant in terms of tropical slugs. But it certainly got our attention! Adam also saw a tarantula pulling a big worm into it's hole yesterday. He was on his morning walk with Zoey around the property. That added a bit of interest to the walk.
We've been in Belize for just over eight months and we are still seeing new things almost everyday. The rain seems to be passing us by. Oh well, at least we got the cool winds. The parrots are starting their evening fly-bys. Always amazes me. Dozens of them at a time. Life here certainly isn't perfect and sometimes I miss friends and family so much that it hurts. But the longer we are here, the more it feels like home. I'm finding myself at peace in this beautiful little country so far from Canada. And we are living true to the words that started this all...
When was the last time that you did something for the first time?
