The house is quiet again. After a week with us, Jen and Daryl have moved on. Moved on to Placencia, anyway! Last year when they visited we got a couple of nights in with them at Placencia. They must have liked it because this time they booked themselves just over a week at the beach. I think that makes the perfect Belize vacation....some time inland and of course, some beach time.
Our time with them was pretty laid back. Last year we might have gone a little overboard with all the sightseeing and touring. We did so much! So this year we decided it would be more low key and Adam's broken arm kind of sealed the deal on that decision! Not a problem though.

This time our visit centred around food, drink, pool and conversation. Daryl and Jen have been our friends for over 30 years. OK...pause here to reflect on how the heck all those years passed so quickly! It's kind of mind boggling! Living in the same town for so many years really does forge lifetime friendships. Even though we moved three countries away we are still able to connect so easily and quickly. In this age where people move around so much and sometimes don't even know their neighbours we are blessed to have friends like this. I'm not sure I realized that when we still lived in Fort Nelson. Now I do.
So, we hung out around the pool and ate and drank too much! Jen and I got out a bit more than the guys. Adam's arm bothered him a fair bit. He'd get all swollen and sweaty when he tried to do too much...ewwwww! We got out to Cahal Pech, more than anything because it felt like we should. You really shouldn't come to Belize and not visit a Mayan site especially when it is only ten minutes away. Our cultural experience turned into lunch at a nearby resort and then back home to the pool. Mid March usually means the thermometer is creeping up so pool time is very appreciated.
I also want to state for the record that we tried very hard to not let Daryl and Jen burn to a crisp while they were in our care! Last year Daryl toasted up bad on a canoe trip and Jen went home looking like an oompa-loompa (her words!). I had been nursing the aloe vera plants along in preparation for their visit but I can happily say that they were hardly needed. Now, whatever happened in Placencia, after they left here, is not our responsibility!!
