It's been just over a week since Mom got here. She's been settling in and soaking up the warm sun...on the sunny days, anyway! We've been getting some more rain. Very much the same as last year. I remember that January 2012 was rainy, too. Oh well, we are making the best of it.
We've spent a fair bit of time with friends this week. Mom and I went to the monthly ladies luncheon at a local hotel, the Aguada. Every month a bunch of women get together to do nothing but have a great meal, enjoy each others company, and make new friends. It's open to anyone and it's always fun. Last month was actually the first time that I went. Apparently, I was getting under Adam's skin. He said that I needed some 'girl time'. Can't argue with that!
We've eaten out a lot since Mom's been here. We sort of fell into the habit of eating at home. Well, that is a bad habit that needed to be broken! So, we've had a few wonderful meals at our neighbour's (Peggy) restaurant. We are truly spoiled to have access to her wonderful cooking pretty much whenever we want. And it's such a fun place to go! We always meet up with friends. And people that we've just met become friends quickly. It's like that here. It's easy to open conversations with strangers. Everyone here has a story and they are usually willing to share it. A few nights ago we visited with a couple from Moose Jaw. They are touring around Central/South America looking for a retirement home. And then I met a woman from Ontario. Her and her husband are spending a couple of months here to see if Belize suits them for full time retirement. We are certainly not alone in this 'radical' move we made.

Oh yah, and please welcome Adam's new couch to our family. This is what happens when a plane is late and we have time to shop in Belize City! When we went to pick up Mom, we had some time to kill so we stopped in at my favourite furniture store, Mirab's. I was content to wander through the store and admire all the beautiful things. Not so much for Adam. I wandered...he found this couch, plopped himself down and declared it to be the perfect couch. We bought it. It's huge...way too big for our little living room. And it's brown...not my favourite colour. But I have to admit that I really like it, too. Seriously comfortable!
