Happy Canada Day!!
Here it is the 1st of July already. I thought the clock was supposed to slow down when you retired but it speeds up! It's a very nice day here in honour of Canada Day. Not too hot. We broke out the flag and had a great BBQ lunch. I was just thinking about the Canada Day/Encana BBQ's in Fort Nelson. Today lunch was for two, not two thousand! Kind of nice.
Had a pretty normal week. Lots of puttering around the house and yard. We are getting rain a few times a week, usually at night. But this certainly isn't the deluge that we were expecting. That's probably still to come. I see that the east coast of Mexico got hit with one of the first named storms of the season. The National Hurricane Centre's website is one of my favourites now. Got to keep on top of these things!
We drove to Belmopan on Wednesday to have our visas extended. We have to make the trip to the Immigration office once a month. We tell them who we are and what we are doing here. Basically proving that we aren't being a burden on the Belizean system and then we pay some money and we get to stay for another month. Just that simple. After a year we will be able to apply for residency and then we will be people with an official status. Honestly, it's a pretty simple system. I seriously doubt that people can immigrate to Canada with such little hassle.
While we were in Belmopan we checked out a new grocery store. Got a tip from the new neighbour, Peggy. It's a good one. I got a Swiffer!!! So far, that has been about the only thing I have regretted not bringing. Shopping here really is pretty good. And coming from Fort Nelson, I consider it down right great! Way more selection that what we have been used to for many years. We hear lots of grumbling from expats from bigger cities but it's all what you are used to. No, you can't run down the street to Walmart or Home Depot but most everything is here...you just have to find it. I think it's awesome!
