The beautiful scenery and rivers of the Cayo district of Belize were a huge draw for us when we were deciding on where to settle. The big problem is that it can be tough to get to the best spots. The Sakt'aj waterfall is located in the Elijio Panti National Park. This is a huge park that was named for a Mayan traditional healer who lived in the area. He was 103 years old when he died in 1996 and was widely regarded as the last Mayan master healer in Belize. These beautiful falls are a just few miles past San Antonio village and the road to the village was really improved just before the last national election so we decided to take advantage. Very good chance that the road won't see a grader again until the next election in five years!
We invited Peggy and Ed to join us. As the days are getting warmer, we are all looking for ways to beat the heat and Ed and Peggy have company...Ed's brother and his wife, David and Rita. Great couple from just outside of Edmonton. So we decided that a day at the Sakt'aj waterfalls would be a perfect way to cool off. Peggy and Ed haven't been there yet so it was a nice chance for us to show them something new. So often, we are going to them for information and advice.
Adam and Ed rode in on their bikes and I drive in with the rest of the crew in the truck. It was much slower for us but no problems. A couple of mud holes for excitement and we were there!

Oh yah....speaking of the bike. Here is Adam's new toy. He's been talking about this for the last several months but wasn't ready to commit until now. A bike is a great way to get around in Belize. Quick, cheap on fuel, and easier to dodge the potholes! I'm sure that he'll have lots of fun on it. And it will make it a whole lot easier to get into the more remote but beautiful places. Next on the list....maybe a little quad for Mona????
