Look at how cool we are! OK...Adam cruises around on his bike all the time but he rarely ever takes me. I get it...having a passenger is never as nice a ride. And in all honesty, I'm probably not the best passenger. Apparently I need to learn to quietly appreciate the scenery and quit gasping at every bump!
So, in a weak moment on a sunny afternoon Adam agreed to take me for a ride. I leaped to grab my helmet out of the closet, blew off the dust and jumped at the chance. We drove out to Benque Viejo, a village on the border with Guatemala. Benque is a pretty little town about 10 miles from us. The streets were especially quiet because it was Sunday. We saw lots of families out walking and in the many parks. A large crowd was watching a football (soccer) game in the stadium. The stands were dotted with colourful umbrellas to provide shade for the fans.

I recently read an article where Belize was listed as the fourth happiest country in the whole world. This isn't the first time that Belize has made this list. Of course, happiness is subjective and how it's measured is always up for dispute but there truly is a real sense of contentment and happiness here.
It's very easy to jump up and point out all the problems in the country...it's certainly not perfect. But Belizeans, on the whole, are proud, dedicated to their families and committed to God.

But maybe the key to happiness is found in a really great cheese burger with fries! What can I say? We are simple folks! After cruising around Benque and a quick run to check out things at the border we stopped for lunch at Snooty Fox. Peggy makes the best burger and fries in the area.
And then it was time to head home. All in all, a really pleasant afternoon. Kind of nice, what we can do when we aren't stuck at the house in construction mode. Every once in a while we have to remind ourselves why we are here. It's easy to fall back into old habits. Bigger isn't always better and more doesn't always provide happiness. A sunny afternoon, taking in this beautiful country from the back of a bike and all with the man that I chose to spend my life with. Doesn't get much better!
